When I tell people I'm considering mid-century modern decor for the bungalow, the typical response is a slightly cocked head followed by a sympathetic smile-and-nod combo – as if to say, "Bless you heart, child!"
Most people tend to think of outdated wood paneling and retro, 1950's furniture in muted tones when they hear the term, but as today's roundup will show, there is so much more to mid-century modern design than that.
I mean, have you seen Mad Men?
Mid-century modern design is the perfect mixture of simple, clean lines, organic elements and graphic patterns, punctuated by the occasional bold accent piece.
Want to add a touch of sophistication à la Don Draper to your home? Today I've partnered with PureModern to round up some of my favorite essentials of this iconic decorating style – and to show you which of these pieces I've already added to our bungalow decor.
Which of these gorgeous pieces caught your eye? Any guesses which piece I'll be adding to our bungalow decor?
I'm so incredibly excited to show you, but unfortunately with our hardwood flooring mid-installation, I have to wait til the space is a bit more presentable. Tune in to part 2 of this post to find out!

I am all about the mid-century modern! My mom thinks I’m crazy whenever I mention it but it’s my favorite sort of style. Great picks! xx Merisa | Monogrammed Magnolias
Oh girl, I feel you on that one! I recently got two chandeliers for the bungalow – one was very traditional, but the other was super modern. My mother’s response to the first one was all like, “Oh, it’s so pretty! Wow!” and so on and so forth. When she saw the second one, however, all she said was, “This one is also nice.” Haha! I was like, yes mom, I know you hate it… LOL
This is a wonderful post. I love the graphics. You are so talented. I think my dream home would have many of the same elements that you described.
Aww Bella, you are incredibly sweet. I would hope that after 10+ years of graphic design experience I would (hopefully) know a thing or two about graphics. ;) I’m glad to hear you also love mid-century modern! Are you a fan of Mad Men?
Love everything about this post! And I especially love tufted sofas. xo
Yesss! I love the versatility of a tufted sofa; it can look oh-so-fancy in a traditional setting and super cool in a mid-century modern one.
Love EVERYTHING!! Xoxo Alex
