Tackling the Master Bedroom: First, A New Mattress

Is it over yet?

No?

People keep telling me how lovely our house renovations are looking (on social media)… But all I want to do is yell, “You’ve only seen the living room! The other 90% of the house are a total mess!”

Of course, I don’t do that – because 1) I’m not a total psycho, and 2) I sincerely appreciate anyone and everyone who takes the time to follow along with our renovations.

But the thought still remains…

I’m trying incredibly hard to remain optimistic, but let’s be honest. After 18 months of non-stop renovations, I’m ready to see it all finished and move on to bigger and better things (stay tuned!).

If you’ve followed our bungalow renovation from the start, you’ve seen our progress in the living room, dining room, kitchen and the guest bathroom.

One room you haven’t seen yet, though, is our master bedroom.

So far, we’ve purchased a dresser and nightstands for the space – super exciting, let me tell you. But I am burnt out and not quire ready to dedicate the necessary time to a room of such importance. So it’s no surprise that I’ve put off decorating.

Then Safavieh reached out to me about sharing my experience with their Dream mattress collection. I thought, “Why not?” If I’ve learned anything during the One Room Challenge earlier this year, nothing is more motivating than the prospect of unveiling your bedroom to the world by way of the Internet.

Everyone knows that a good night’s sleep starts with the mattress. Even though ours was only four years old, it was too far on the firm side for my liking. As a light sleeper, I woke up with every twist, turn and grunt from the husband – and let’s just say he takes his time finding a comfortable sleeping position.

So, how is the Safavieh Dream collection different from the plethora of other mattress-in-a-box options on the market?

Well, let me count the ways.

For starters, the Safavieh Dream mattress is not a typical memory foam mattress like the others. Even thought the mattress arrives rolled up in a box, it’s designed with individual pocket-coils to fully support your body and relieve pressure points while you sleep.

Firm, however, doesn’t equate to uncomfortable. The “Serenity” mattress from the Safavieh Dream collection comes with a box top pad made of memory foam. It provides ample support whether you’re a back-, stomach-, or side-sleeper, but better yet: the memory foam in the top pad eliminates motion disturbance, meaning that when your husband is tossing and turning into the night, you’re blissfully unaware.

That alone was a huge, huge selling point for me.

The shopping experience on SafaviehMattress.com is a total breeze, too. Simply select from the 6-, 8-, 10-, or 11.5-inch mattress, choose your size (twin, full, queen, king) and in just a few days the mattress arrives to your doorstep in a vacuum-sealed bag, rolled up tightly in a box.

Another major plus: the Safavieh Dream collection works with any bed frame. You can layer it over an existing box spring like we did. It’s also perfect on its own atop platform beds. And, of course, slatted bed frames are another great choice for a Dream mattress, as it provides enough support, as well as allows the mattress to “breathe.”

To give you an idea of just how quickly you can put the mattress to use once it arrives, we’ve filmed a short video where I share my unboxing experience. The process was incredibly quick; once you cut open the sealed bag, the mattress uncoils in a matter of seconds!

Tune in next week as I continue working with Safavieh on another major update in the master bedroom! Any guesses as to what it may be?

Until then, hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and please take some time to sign off from social media and enjoy time with your loved ones!

This project is brought to you in collaboration with Safavieh. Thanks for supporting the amazing companies that allow me to create unique content while featuring products I truly use and love.

  1. This sounds like a great mattress company to work with! I’m really enjoying learning about new mattress brands (oddly enough) because it goes to show that there are so many more, better options out there than what gets widely advertised.

    • The cool thing about this one is that you don’t have to go store to store, trying them out, finding the best price, etc. It’s all online and super easy to order, and it arrives in a small box right at your doorstep!

  2. That mattress sounds awesome! We will be getting a new mattress in a few months when we move to a house so I will totally keep this brand in mind.

  3. Loving the look of your master bedroom already! Finding a great mattress is so important! I have loved following along with your house renovations!!

  4. When I got my mattress for my apartment last year, I learned how much of a process mattress shopping truly is!! So glad y’all found one that’s working so well.

    xoxo A

    • Oh yes, it can be a total nightmare. That’s why I was so pleasantly surprised with Safavieh – no shopping around, no trekking from store to store. Best thing about the experience is that the mattress arrives at your doorstep in a box, so you don’t have to worry about store delivery!

  5. Just bought a mattress last year and it has done wonders for me! I’m glad you were able to start on your bedroom!

  6. We’re also working on decorating a home right now, and it’s so much fun but stressful! That light fixture in your bedroom is TO DIE FOR! I love it!

    • Oh yes! We’re on our 19th month of our full-house renovation, so I know all about that stress!!! Thanks so much for your kind words about the light fixture – you can shop it at the following retailers:

      Bellacor
      Lumens
      Bed Bath & Beyond

Unfortunately it’s either sold out or on back order at the moment – except for Lumens… but if you want to keep looking, it’s called the “Pontil” chandelier by George Kovacs. Good luck!

  7. I know the feeling of never will be done…. oh yeah, and also the feeling of the rest of the house is a mess! At least you haven’t had a contractor just not finish a job like we did recently. Thankfully we are able to finish the job ourselves.

So remember it really does look fabulous. Can’t wait to see the Master, especially, when the mattress looks that fab.

    Merry Christmas

    • Actually we did! Our fireplace guy took the first payment and split, and we had to finish it ourselves, so unfortunately I know all too well the frustration you had to deal with!

Thank you so very much for all your sweet comments and support this year, Brianna! They mean the world to me! Hope your family had a lovely Christmas and New Year’s; hopefully you had some downtime to enjoy each other and the amazing progress you’ve made on your house thus far. XO
