Friday Favorites is a series where we share small, seemingly mundane moments from the past week – little details, often overlooked, that comprise this thing we call life.
I am still getting over a terrible, terrible cold, but because I’ve been MIA from the blog and social media for the past week (other than Snapchat, because it’s my favorite, ha!), I will attempt to string together a few words for this here post.
I’ll keep it short and sweet for both of our sakes.
We’re in a sort of funk as far as the renovation is concerned; I believe the technical term is ‘renovation burnout’ – and it ain’t pretty, ladies and gentlemen. The good news, however, is that countertops are being installed later today (crossing my fingers for that not to be rescheduled AGAIN), which means that I will be spending the entire weekend installing the kitchen backsplash. Most people would shudder at the thought, but I, for one, am SO FREAKING EXCITED, because once the countertops, sink and backsplash are installed, the kitchen will officially be functional, which, in turn, means we can move in.
It’s happening, and I can hardly believe it!
Speaking of renovations, you likely already know my obsession with designer Emily Henderson‘s work, but this project right here – I just can’t! What a wonderful example of selfless love, and kudos to Target for funding the transformation! I couldn’t even get halfway through the first article without crying like a fool, so consider yourself warned.
Speaking of Target, my VERY FAVORITE BRASS MIRROR is currently on sale at 40% off! I have literally purchased four of these for our new house – FOUR!!! By the way, that 40% off applies to all home decor, so run, run, run over to Target.com! Oh, and use code TGTMYJ3J for an additional $5 off $50! You’re welcome!
For anyone curious about what kind of countertops we chose – or the grueling process in general – we chose the Luna Pearl granite, seen above. It’s a versatile, gray and white option of medium variation; more importantly, it’s a timeless, natural material that is scratch-, heat- and stain-proof.
If you’re in the market for countertops, may I suggest one thing? Check the company’s website for any specials they may currently be running.
Case in point: We found the Luna Pearl granite and were given a quote of $40/sq. ft. Now, our kitchen is about 100 sq. ft. – 47 of which are countertops, so we were looking at approximately $2,000 for countertops. Add to that an undermount sink installation fee which, by the way, is approximately a gazillion times more expensive than a drop-in sink, and you’re looking at about $2.3K just for kitchen countertops and installation – for a teeny, tiny kitchen, may I remind you.
Thankfully, when doing research, we came across the website of the company that gave us that particular quote, and they had an online promotion for Luna Pearl granite at $29/sq. ft. Mixed feelings over here about their less-than-transparent way of doing business, but hey, I guess it’s no different from any other business that requires you mentioning the online special yourself.
I’m just thankful we were able to get such a great deal, because we were seriously considering laminate. If you’re in the Chattanooga area, I’ll be happy to pass along the info, if you’d like.
Love the mirror… Wish I could add it to my dorm that I’m currently starting to decorate :) XO, Nicole // http://www.empirestyles.com
