Friday Favorites: February 3

Friday Favorites is a series where we share small, seemingly mundane moments from the past week – little details, often overlooked, that comprise this thing we call life.

You know when you haven’t seen a friend in a long time, and you have so much to tell them? Yet, when you finally meet, nothing comes to mind?

That’s how these Friday Favorites posts are starting to feel.

Last time I shared one of these was two months ago, and oh, I’ve missed them so. If nothing else, Friday Favorites is a chance for us to have a more candid conversation about everyday matters.

The biggest change that comes to mind from the last two months is pregnancy. Although I haven’t shared an official blog announcement like I did on Instagram, I’ve mentioned it enough times that most of you likely know that we’re expecting our first little one in July.

I’ve considered sharing about pregnancy in more detail on the blog – even had a few friends and readers ask if I plan on doing so – but for now, it all just feels a bit too intimate to share with the whole world. That’s not to say that motherhood won’t become a regular topic discussed here. I imagine it playing a colossal role in shaping my identity in the coming months, and anything of such magnitude usually does make its way to the blog in due time.

I’m curious what you all think – how many of you would be interested in topics like pregnancy and motherhood?

Let’s switch gears to a more familiar topic. The house renovation has been at a standstill for some time, so no major news to report there. I have a million and one ideas swirling around in my head but very little energy to put them into motion. I think it’s the cold weather, and the short days and, of course, the pregnancy exhaustion that has me feeling a little blah. So for the time being, I’m focusing on decorating where I can. It doesn’t require as much physical labor as home improvement but still gives me a sense of progress, a sense of control. We’re continuing our partnership with Safavieh, so keep on the lookout for entryway updates as early as next week!

As for bigger projects, we have an entire list planned for 2017. We’re in the midst of planning for a deck, a front porch, driveway – all very exciting! I’m also hoping to finally tackle the master bathroom. There’s a vintage clawfoot tub that needs to be resurfaced, mirrors to be hung, curtains to source and hang… I’m also considering adding a backsplash behind the double vanity, so maybe I’ll start with that, since I already have quite a bit of experience with tile (see our bathroom floor, custom tiled shower, and kitchen backsplash).

You can see glimpses of the master bathroom here, here, here and here.

With it being already February, I’m also working on securing sponsors for the One Room Challenge in April with hopes of transforming our office (which currently functions as storage) into a nursery. We tackled the living room in the last round, which you can see here.

I’m also gathering wallpaper samples for that dining room wall that I posted on Instagram. Are you in favor of a black and white, geometric option that I’m considering? Or do you think that this is the perfect opportunity to (finally) add some color to the house? What would you do?

One project I’m particularly excited about is our master closet! Right now it’s just a sad heap of a mess, but very soon it’ll be a beautiful, custom work of art – and I can’t wait!

Phew, what a list – right? Just typing it all out makes me want to take a nap! If you’re still reading, can I just say thank you?

Now, tell me about your week(s)! What are you doing, searching for, thinking about, planning, and obsessing over these days? Please share in the comments section, below.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. What I’m researching? Self-adhesive wallpaper. Both simple and geometric patterns. We will be listing our house soon, so I’m struggling with what to choose, but I have a few spaces that need some personality.

    • Krista, I’m in the same boat (on the search for wallpaper – not on selling the house). I have a few walls that, like you said, need some personality. I’m typically drawn to geometric wallpaper, but the idea of having a feature wall in practically every room seems overwhelming… Decisions, decisions!

By the way, if it’s of any help, a few of the companies I’m looking at are Walls Need Love, Milton & King, Chasing Paper, and Cole & Son.

Since wallpaper can be a polarizing topic for homeowners, and you’re getting ready to list your house, I’d say maybe opt for grasscloth? That’s always a classy, traditional option.

Let me know what you decide – I’d love to see the end result!

  3. Love your blog and am very interested in your decoration ideas.

I’m continuing my study in being more and more feminine and love going shopping with my girlfriends.

Thanks for you blog, love it!

  4. YAY – another one room challenge! Gosh I sound like a nerd, but I can’t wait already.
I don’t think I’ve ever commented before, but just wanted to say I’m glad I found your blog! Love reading along, and congratulations on your little baby. <3

    • Bethany, hi!! Thanks so much for reading and following along, and for your sweet words about our little bean! :) I’m curious how you found my blog, if you don’t mind sharing!

I can totally relate on the ORC sentiment, though. It’s so fun to watch the transformations take place!
