Do you ever buy something for whatever stupid reason – be it for a special occasion, or because it's on sale, or simply to try a new trend – only to bring it home and realize you have no idea how to actually incorporate it into your closet? For the record, I'm not talking about buyers' remorse, because your love for said item is as great as it was when you first laid eyes on it {if not greater simply for the fact that you want to but can't wear it}.
It's frustrating, right?
I typically gravitate away from "how to" posts {not that you care}, but after searching Pinterest high and low for ideas on wearing this gorgeous number from SoCal Gems, I knew something had to be done about the lack of quality information out there. While statement necklaces are certainly no radically new trend, I have yet to see them worn in any way worth repeating other than under a collar – and wearing collared shirts gets real old real fast. As a result, behold 10 must-try ideas on how to wear a statement necklace.

MAJOR WOW FACTOR: WHITE TOP + ART DECO NECKLACE »
Dress up an otherwise uninteresting boxy white tee with an art deco necklace. Generally, any time you're wearing elaborate neck candy, stay away from patterns and otherwise busy tops if you want to, at the very least, avoid looking like a flamboyant peacock.

PERFECT FIT: V-NECK TOP + PENDANT NECKLACE »
When wearing a top with a neckline in the shape of a "V," opt for a pendant necklace to match that shape. Doing so will help elongate your neck – and who doesn't want that?!

BEJEWELED COLLAR: CREW TOP + BIB NECKLACE »
Most tops with a crew neckline tend to give off rather prim and proper vibe, which is not exactly how I want to be perceived. Proper? Maybe... Prim? Not so much. To spice up a plain crew neck top, wear your favorite bib necklace as a collar.

MIXING PLEASURE WITH BUSINESS: TURTLENECK + LONG CHAIN »
Speaking of prim and proper, let's talk about turtlenecks. Not only will a long chain add a festive factor to a work outfit, but it will make you look long and lean too. {Again – sound fabulous, no?}

ADD SOME COLOR: SOLID TOP + MULTI COLOR NECKLACE »
When wearing a solid colored top, choose a multi color necklace to add more interest to your outfit. When shopping for a multi color necklace, think of the colors you already have in your closet and choose a necklace that fits into that color palette. For example, this necklace features blue, yellow, pink and green – all of which are colors I love to sport.

MIX IT UP: GIRLY TOP + PUNK NECKLACE »
Keep a lace top from looking too girly by pairing it with a punk necklace. The juxtaposition of a feminine piece with such a masculine one takes your outfit from predictable to interesting. Besides, you can never go wrong with a metal necklace, as it looks super rad with every color.

MONOCHROMATIC MADNESS: MINT TOP + MINT NECKLACE »
Go monochrome with your top and necklace for a streamlined, fresh look. Add a pop of color with a bright lipstick to keep things interesting.

LESS IS MORE: STRIPES + CHAINS »
Sometimes the "less-is-more" approach works best. Dress up your favorite classic striped top with a simple chain necklace. The classy stripes keep the chain from looking too "Jerseylicious."

DOUBLE THE FUN: LAYERED COMBO »
If you're anything like me {and we can settle that question real quick with last week's post}, you may have difficulty making decisions. If that is the case, I'm about to make your life, like, a billion times simpler. Next time you're not sure which necklace to wear, why not wear two? Or three? Or four? The more, the merrier is what I always say! Just make sure they're in the same color scheme, like this black, gray and gold combo.

DRESS UP AN LBD: BALLET NECKLINE + BIB NECKLACE »
Styling your go-to little black dress with a statement necklace is a fun way to add a twist to an old classic. In fact, try wearing the same LBD every day for a week while changing up the necklace, and see if anyone notices. Chances are, they won't. {You're welcome!} A good rule to follow is if the dress neckline is large, opt for a bib necklace that lays close to the neck. If the neckline is small, choose a long chain instead.
Now, it's your turn! What type of statement necklaces do you typically gravitate towards? What's your go-to outfit when wearing serious neck candy?

This is absolutely awesome , thanks for this info. Cant we put this information in our website for jewelry? It’s coming soon!
Thanks for sharing your informative post. Can you tell me what do you wear with a long necklace?
I love how there are so many different statement necklaces that you can choose from. My wife has a birthday coming up and she loves big jewelry so I thought that she might like a statement necklace. I think that she would like the punk necklace option because of how big and unique it is. I’ll ask her friends if she would like it so that I can get it for her.
Thanks, Tracy! Did I miss any of your favorite ways to wear a statement necklace? I’d love to hear your ideas! XOXO
