In light of the current blizzard Juno nonsense, it's only appropriate to dream of being anywhere but here – unless "here" is an ocean-view villa on a tropical beach, in which case, let's be friends, okay?
You already got a glimpse of the glorious beauty that is Portugal back when I first introduced you to Cabo da Roca. But seeing how that was one year ago (wow, I am terrible at uploading travel diaries), let's refresh our memory.
If I had to describe Lisbon – and the entire country of Portugal – in one word, I would say underrated. Paris, Venice, Milan, Rome – all typical reasons to be excited about a trip across Europe. Lisbon, however, was not on the initial list when the husband and I were planning our three-month itinerary. But fate intervened, and a few weeks before departing it dawned on me that I had relatives residing in Lisbon. The fact that I last saw them at the ripe age of three (and thus had no recollection of them) seemed like a minor, irrelevant detail. Long story short, Lisbon was one of our favorite stops, and I have my family and their generous hospitality to thank for that.

If you’re like me – already dreaming of summertime even though it’s only January – I hope my travel diaries will encourage you to start making plans of your own. Which EU country would you like me to highlight next?
