For some, the act of putting on lipstick is nothing special, but to me it is an affirmation of my femininity.

One of my earliest and fondest memories consists of me donning my mother's luxurious, silk robe, painting my lips in whatever shade lipstick I happened to get my hands on, sliding my tiny feet into my mother's prettiest heels and, last but not least, propping a plastic, silver crown atop my mess of brown curls – rather an extensive primping process when you consider that my daily schedule consisted of little more than attempting to look regal while I wandered leisurely from room to room, as if my entire existence depended on my ability to move with ease and grace.

Granted, I was only three years old, so my idea of grace was anything but graceful – especially when you consider my over-the-top ensemble – but the purest of intentions was definitely there. Even at such a young age, I had a firm understanding that a true lady was to look and behave a certain way.

One might find the notion humorous, but in today's ultra modern day and age it's rather comforting to every once in a while recall this sweet memory and the innocence with which I carried out the so-called duties of a proper lady.

Contrary to what the aforementioned tale may lead you to believe, I like to consider myself to be a rather simple person, with simple tastes and an affinity for life's simple pleasures. For some, the act of putting on lipstick is nothing special, but to me it continues to be an affirmation of my femininity.

Whether it's a sultry red for a celebratory evening with the husband or a classic nude for the everyday, I like lipstick that provides full coverage yet feels lightweight and creamy.

The best part? The lipstick stays on your lips – an obvious but rather difficult thing to find in today's beauty aisles.

In case you're wondering about the natural aspect, the lipstick ingredients include mooring, raspberry seed oil, beeswax and vitamin E. You can smell a hint of raspberry as you apply it, which makes application that much more enjoyable. Moringa is an oil full of essential fatty acids that help to soften and condition skin, while raspberry seed oil improves skin elasticity – it's no wonder Burt's Bees lipstick is referred to as "the lipstick that loves you back."

My two favorite shades are the Nile Nude and Magenta Rush, the first being perfect for everyday glam, and the latter a fun, bold color.

  8. I have never really worn lipstick, but it’s something that I have been looking into trying. Now that I know that Burt’s Bees has a lipstick I am dying to try it out as soon as possible. By the way I adore your pictures. They are all so amazing!

  17. I’m totally obsessed with lipstick!! Berry shades are my absolute favorite, I’ve found that the darker shades look better on me compared to a pink.
