I’ve never been as excited to announce anything as I am today’s news. Vadim and I are having a baby girl!
Just typing those words fills me with such a range of emotions… Good emotions, of course – but everything from nervous anticipation to disbelief to over-the-top joy, because OH MY GOODNESS! I can’t believe it! I’m going to be a mom to a little girl!!!
We had our second ultrasound on Wednesday, March 1st, but instead of finding out the baby’s gender like normal people, we opted to have the ultrasound technician put the photo in an envelope, which was then handed off to my sister, who was in charge of coordinating the smoke bombs for our small family get-together.
You’d think that after waiting 20 weeks to find out the gender of our little one, the few extra days would be a breeze – but no. When you have the answer right in front of you, in a little envelope just inches from your eager fingers, patience takes on a totally new meaning.
I have yet to share how we found out I was pregnant, or how the first trimester passed – and honestly, I’m still unsure whether I want to publish those intimate details for public consumption. But today, I wanted to share with you our smoke bomb gender reveal. I’ve seriously re-watched the video 11 million times, and every time I can’t help but tear up with joy.
During the reveal I cried like a big baby, as expected. During the first trimester, I was convinced I was having a girl, but after reading a plethora of wive’s tales, I begin to allow the possibility that it might, in fact, be a boy.
I honestly have no idea how anyone can truly know; we simply allow our personal preference to dictate our intuition. Either way, it’s an incredible feeling to no longer refer to the belly as “baby” but rather as “our daughter.”
Thank you to all who have left the warmest wishes on our Facebook and Instagram announcements. It means so much to us – more than I can explain! We are blessed to have so many incredible people around us during this very special time.

This is great! Can you tell me where you got those smoke canisters?
Thanks Erica! We bought them at a local fireworks shop, but the same ones are available on Amazon, too: http://bit.ly/2scUUqq. I just wrapped them in black washi tape so you couldn’t tell if it was blue or pink and attached a wooden skewer stick to each one for easy holding. Hope that helps!
Oh my gosh this is the cutest thing EVER! Congratulations!! So creative!
