As 2018 comes to a close, one tradition I enjoy very much is dreaming of all I will do with FOXYOXIE.com in the new year.
An especially enjoyable part of this creative brainstorming process is reflecting on the year’s most-read blog posts. Seeing the topics that interest you most helps shape the content for next year, and so without further ado, below are 18 of the most-read blog posts I wrote in 2018.
If you have a minute, chime in down in the comments with which posts you found most helpful, interesting or inspiring.
To read the posts, simply click on the titles.
One of the most rewarding projects I completed this year was volunteering to redesign the playroom at our local Ronald McDonald House. I documented the entire process on the blog, and unsurprisingly each and every update has made it to the most-read list.
I would love to find similar opportunities next year – charity projects to donate my design knowledge, talents and time to. I’m also fully aware that having two babies under two years old may not allow for such luxuries, but I’m hopeful.
Either way, I definitely enjoyed the local aspect of this project – and it seems like you all did too.
Although I planned to share a lot more organization-focused posts in 2018, funny little thing called life happened, and I simply ran out of time.
Fortunately, I finished far more organization projects than I actually blogged about, so here’s to sharing all those ideas with you in 2019! Many of you wrote in about wanting to see kitchen organization, …. If there’s a topic you’re interested in that I didn’t mention, let me know!
Yet another playroom redesign-related post, this one focused on 3-D mockups of the room – which is always a favorite. Are design plans, moodboards, 3-D mockups topics you enjoy reading about? Let me know if you have specific questions about any of these!
Room reveals are, unsurprisingly, always popular – and the playroom redesign reveal was no exception. This particular post was one of my favorites to share – if only because the transformation was so insane.
I also got to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the grand reveal and connect with a lot of locals, which is always a bonus.
The 14th most-read post was a follow-up to Mila’s birthday party post. In this one, I shared a DIY tutorial on creating the balloon garland, below, along with lots of ideas for attainable yet impactful ways to decorate for a special event.
Is it the DIY or the party decor aspect that you enjoyed most – or a combination of both?
The few DIY posts I shared this year all made it to the most-read list, which tells me that you all not only like do-it-yourself projects, but that you prefer ones that are simple.
In this post, I worked with Hickory Hardware to update the pulls and knobs in several furniture pieces in our home – a very simple project that makes a huge difference in the overall aesthetic of a house.
What do you enjoy reading about more: massive room transformations or smaller, more attainable projects?
Unsurprisingly, yet another DIY project made the most-read list – this one highlighting the transformation of our master closet.
For a long time (over two years, if I’m not mistaken!), we lived with two portable clothing racks as our master closet. So finally, I said enough is enough. I worked with a long-time FOXY OXIE partner, ClosetMaid, to utilize every inch of space in our closet for a more permanent solution.
Do you have any major renovations or room transformations planned for 2019?
Every time I’ve shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse into various collaborations I work on, you all send in so many questions. This year, I compiled all of those questions into one massive post, which became one of my most-read posts of 2018.
Is the blogging business something you’re curious about, too? What else would you want to know about it?
The Marie Antoinette-inspired dinner party was a collaboration I worked on with Wayfair.
I love styling and photographing beautiful and inspiring vignettes and tablescapes and hope to share more of these projects for you in 2019.
For this project, I worked with Tuesday Morning to update our outdoor living space back in April, and because so many of you requested help in designing your own deck or patio, I put together an entire guide to designing a cohesive outdoor space (on a budget!).
Come next spring, I hope to update some of the bigger furniture pieces on our deck – the seating area, for example, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll finally get around to painting or staining the deck and pergola. So, stay tuned for lots more deck projects in 2019!
A couple years ago I started a series of posts where, right around major holidays when many retailers were having massive sales, I would share a roundup of furniture and decor in our home that was on sale at the moment.
A major portion of content on FOXYOXIE.com is home decor- and design-related, so I figure you all must relate to my style in one way or another. As a result, it’s only fair that I tell you when some of the very pieces I used in our own home are on sale – in case you, too, have been wanting to recreate the look in your own home.
I’m definitely surprised that these types of posts have performed so well, but on the other hand, who doesn’t love a good deal?
Let me know if you’re interested in seeing more of these types of posts in 2019!
Going from working in the corporate world to becoming a mom who works from home was one of my biggest life changes in 2018. It’s no wonder this day-in-the-life post made it to the top 10 list.
I especially enjoyed the chance to photograph our typical day and will cherish these photos for years to come! If you struggle with documenting your everyday life with your babies, I recently shared a post with lots of helpful tips on doing just that. Check it out here.
When I polled my readers for topics they’d be interested in reading about, keeping a clean home with babies involved always made it to the top of the list.
In this post, I share my tips for doing just that. I must admit that it’s become a bit more challenging to keep clutter to a minimum as Mila grows, I am proud to say that our house really is that clean the majority of the time – I’ve just had to get a little more creative, that’s all. If a clean and clutter-free home is a priority for you as well, then this post is for you!
I hope to share lots more organization- and cleaning-focused posts in 2019, especially as I enter the nesting phase in anticipation of baby no. 2’s arrival. Any particular topics you’d like me to cover?
Similar to the “items currently on sale” posts, this one covers our most asked-about furniture and decor – and where you can buy it for yourself.
I’m always receiving emails, DMs, messages, etc. about where a certain item is from, so I figured why not turn those questions into a blog post?
Also, you can always browse my “Shop Our House” page, where – just like the name suggests – you can shop every item in our house, divided by rooms.
That brings us to the fourth most-read article in 2018: “Shop Our House: Product Links and Room Tours”
What a perfect transition, eh?
Obviously, this one needs no explanation, as I just talked about it under the previous photo.
No. 3 | More Than a Pair of Baby Shoes
For this article I worked with Target and Stride Rite Shoes to craft a very personal essay on motherhood and the bittersweet experience of watching your babies grow up.
I’ve since written several posts in a similar essay-like style, and I’m happy to see that you all enjoy reading them just as much as I enjoy writing them. They’re definitely different from my typical conversation-like style of writing, but the chance to flex a new creative muscle is always welcome.
I truly hope to share more personal experiences and stories in 2019, because I feel like I’ve taken a step back from doing that in 2018 – and I truly miss it. The act of sifting through my own thoughts and feelings and getting them down on paper – or a blog post, in this case – helps my brain catch up with my heart.
The second most-read post in 2018 was when I first shared the Chattanooga Ronald McDonald House project, along with the cringe-worthy before photos.
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as comparing the results of a project to really terrible before photos, eh? As much as my perfectionism resists sharing these types of photos on the blog, I know you all enjoy seeing the transformations. So, I will try to share more of before and afters in the new year.
Last but not least, the most-read article of 2018 was one I wrote in partnership with Ergobaby – a brand we truly love, use and trust.
The other day I received the most heartfelt message about how one reader wished I shared more motherhood-related content, because – and I quote – “it’s so refreshing to read what you have to say.”
It warms my heart to receive such messages because sharing about these intimate topics tends to feel like baring a little bit of my soul. Although, as I already mentioned earlier, this year I’ve shied away from vulnerable topics, I hope to be more open and transparent in 2019 because I love connecting with you on levels less frivolous than how we decorate our home or style our table for special occasions – as much as I writing about those topics, too.
That, ladies and gentlemen, concludes our list of the top posts in 2018! If you feel so inclined, please share what topics you found most interesting on FOXYOXIE.com in 2018, so I know what to create for you in 2019.
