Kicking off 2021 with a new post on the blog – a Kicking off 2021 with a new post on the blog – and crossing my fingers for more consistent blogging this year. 🤞🏼Today's article is all about installing penny tile. I'm sharing all the tips and tricks I've learned along the way of my exciting side career as a tile master – ha!
On a side note, @em_henderson recently questioned whether penny tile goes in a kitchen – especially as the backsplash – and I'd like to think our Edgmon Ranch flip is reason enough to say yes! ☺️ The tone-on-tone look adds so much subtle texture to a space without overwhelming it. And if you're worried about spills – there's always the option to seal the grout!
What do you think?
I feel "behind" on Instagram life – if that's ev I feel "behind" on Instagram life – if that's even a real thing. (It isn't.) But I haven't had the mental bandwidth to put life into words lately. It's all just too much sometimes. But I'll tell you this: I've never been more grateful for house projects as I have these last couple of weeks. Nothing like a looming deadline to distract my anxious mind. That – and a good before and after to remind me just how far I've come and what I'm capable of. But really I just wanted to share with you this reminder: "It is not joy that makes us grateful. It is gratitude that makes us joyful." Today I am grateful for answered prayers...a healthy family...unwavering love from above...house projects...opportunities to do what I enjoy and be paid for it...and grace — lots and lots of mercy and grace. ✨ What are you especially grateful for today? Even if you don't share your list with me I hope you take the time to think about it. 🖤
How it's going vs. how it started... 🙌🏼 Tomo How it's going vs. how it started... 🙌🏼 Tomorrow we grout and patch walls and then next week we paint and bring in all the pretty stuff!
Say what you will about labor-intensive projects like this but there is something so immensely satisfying about being able to do it with your own hands. Would you ever want to learn how to install your own tile? I have tutorials on the blog for everything from showers to floors to backsplashes!
Oh and LOL at the 25 percent of you who disliked this tile...! 😆 Personally I'm obsessed. 🖤
Nothing is where it's supposed to be and I've been Nothing is where it's supposed to be and I've been playing musical chairs with everything from rugs to mirrors and so forth and I will probably paint that fireplace tile black and don't even get me started on the utter chaos right outside this shot. But these days I often think of @chrislovesjulia's mantra "Don't wait!" Don't wait until something is perfect to enjoy it. Oh goodness how that applies to this phase of our life... 🖤
Celebrating every step of progress – no matter h Celebrating every step of progress – no matter how small! This room will eventually be an office – imagine dark charcoal built-ins with some brass statement lighting and maybe even a burl wood desk! But for now it's a makeshift dining room and I couldn't be more happy. Who wants to come over for our first dinner party? 🖤 In other news...really wishing I had painted the French doors black right about now. What do you think? P.S. Check my stories for the before!
I don't think I've ever been as excited about a ba I don't think I've ever been as excited about a bathroom as I am about this powder room at our Greenfield Remodel. I've partnered with @wayfair to share my design plans on the blog – plus a sneak peek of the progress! Check it out and let me know if I've convinced you on the dark paint! 🖤🖤🖤 Link in bio.
"Because in the end the point of home in all its f "Because in the end the point of home in all its fullness – the point of good meals or full cupboards or ordered rooms – it's not just to provide creaturely comfort or to prove some sort of competence. The point of home is to be a refuge for the soul – a place where beauty can be encountered...truth told...goodness touched and known. It's why home needs hush as well as bustle and silence as well as song. The point of home is to shelter lost and weary people...draw in the lonely...cover the grieved. No home is a perfect sanctuary of course. We will never be able to offer a foolproof refuge from all the storms of life or keep trouble from finding its way behind the walls of our home. God is our only sure source of safety. (Psalm 4:8) But a loving home – carefully prepared – can be a powerful source of rest and healing and comfort." – The Lifegiving Home by Sally Clarkson

Have I also mentioned that I have yet to pack a single thing? Yeah...things are going great! 😆 Joking aside – I am paralyzed by the thought of just how much needs to get done before the end of next week – and so I do nothing. Please send help or coffee or both. 😩
